Tips For Data Backup

What amount of your life is stored on the computer? Most people simply do not realize how much of their world is stored on their computer. These days, most photos are digitally formatted, and very few are ever printed on paper. The average individual stores personal information on the home PC along with access to bank accounts and bill paying links. The home computer has become a one-stop location for finding anything the average person accumulates such as email addresses and work files.

For this reason, when the computer crashes, it can be devastating for modern day homeowners. If your computer crashed and suffered from a fatal shutdown, what would you do? Would a power surge, lightning strike, or hard drive failure have your life going up in a flash? If so, then it is unlikely that you are practicing safe practices with system backups.

How Frequently Should You Backup?

There is just one way to ensure that your data is safe, and that is with a regular system backup. It will depend on how often new data is placed in your system as to how often it should be backed up, and of course on how important the data is. If that happens only occasionally, and you typically only use it for social media or browsing the Internet, backing it up once every two weeks or should be enough. However, if new data is introduced daily because you are doing business, working from home, or a student, you may need to backup your system every other day or even daily to save your information. Using this frequency of backup is the best option when there are large amounts of data that you don’t want to lose.

How To Backup Data

There are several ways that you can backup your computer data. The CDR is the most common and simplest method, and nearly all computers come with CD ROMs today. They are typically equipped for playing CDs, DVDs, CDRs and with CDR burners. It is commonly understood that the CDR is a hardy device that will take a beating and continue to operate which is why they are a great way to store your computer information. These devices store a large amount of data and are rather cheap. Each time you want to backup your system, just change to a new CDR and start the backup.

Among the other backup methods is the external hard drive. Such systems are available in TB range, and are hooked to the computer by way of USB cable. It works very much as if it were a second computer hard drive. When not in use, they should be disconnected from the computer because they will also crash if your computer does if they are connected.

A flash drive is a small, portable device which is a good way to back up information on a limited basis. Because they are smaller in size, it makes them easy to forget and leave plugged in. since these units can fail unexpected and need to be reformatted if they are going to be used again, it is best to use three or four of them on a rotating basis when backing up data.

There are some older methods that are not used any longer for backup. These are tape drives, floppy diskettes, and Zip drives. These are not easy to obtain any longer and even if you were able to get them, they damage or break easily. They are also more susceptible to magnets than today’s modern data backup tools.

The Best Choice

Of all the above options, the CDR has to be the safest choice when you need to recover data. There is no need to use special treatment with them, and they can store large amounts of information. You will never need to be concerned about unplugging them when you are through backing up data. If you forget that it is inside your computer, and it crashes, you can just pry it out and use it.

New Pathways to Education Reform Using Lean

According to Lean Frog

Some information came from the following Lean Frog Blogs – leanfroghuntsville.blogspot.com and theleanfrog.blogspot.com.

Educational reform is a tricky subject. Most calls for educational reform are met with skepticism as to whether or not the expense involved will be justified. Other people do not even want to admit there are any problems with most schools in the first place. Plans for education reform will often have to deliver noticeable results very quickly in order to ultimately win over the skeptics and achieve their full potential. Schools already have their hands full, in many cases, and all attempts at educational reform must be convenient for the faculty. Getting the staff, faculty, and parents to cooperate and agree on certain school changes is a sizable challenge.

Lean Frog has developed the reputation for doing exactly what the skeptics of educational reform expect. This educational consulting firm makes an effort to attack some of the problems schools are currently facing right at the source. Teachers are often overstressed and overworked, with inflated class sizes that causes their efforts to be stretched too thin, no matter what dedicated professionals they are. Students often do not get the time they need to truly learn the critical thinking skills and knowledge they need to yield the necessary academic results.

Lean Frog works with the existing faculty of the schools, and in so doing, they manage to make their ideas more accessible to the faculty members. Reforms that were imposed on the faculty from the outside, as with many governmental educational reforms, may be met with some resistance and frustration. Lean Frog seeks to act as an ally to the faculty, as opposed to acting in opposition to them. It is a partnership that is geared towards affecting change for the schools.

Often, the key to saving time is just to use your own time much more efficiently. Learning teaching methods that allow you to teach far more efficiently can lead to tremendous savings in class time. Learning the techniques employed by Lean Frog can be accomplished relatively quickly. The firm works around the faculty, and tries to make the training periods swift, purposeful, and efficient. Educational reform becomes possible and desirable.

Stay Ahead Of The Curve With Current Advances In Technology

It seems that many business owners are consumed with just keeping up with current technology like faster Internet connections, and handling everyday demands. Most don’t give a second thought to what tomorrow will bring technology wise anyway. Some don’t even understand that it changes constantly.

Businesses that expect to make smooth transitions from one moment to the next must first consider the services of an Ethernet specialist. Here are some things that should be included in any business analysis.

Covering the Bases

While it is pretty much impossible to what the future in technology holds, there are some things that can be done to prevent some of the most common mistakes. With the installation of a satellite Internet package or T1 Line, it is entirely possible to do just that, particularly when the service comes from the best providers in today’s industry. It is their goal to make sure that all the bases are covered before anything untoward can happen.

Technology On The Cutting Edge

Here is where the technology comes in. Cutting edge technology is often thought of as Ethernet over copper, and this is for good reason. However, technology that is truly advanced ensures that there is no reason to be concerned that there will be no compromised lines regardless of the time it is installed, with little regard to industry shifts.

Along with all of that, service providers that support technology must be able to adapt as needed. This means they promise to stay updated on new and innovative developments rather than allowing clients to fall behind the curve in business.

Using a VGA to DVI-D Converter to Connect an Old Computer to a Digital Monitor

VGA ports have been around since the late 1980s and they still remain present on laptops. While DVI and HDMI are two of the clear successors of the aging connector, having a VGA port on laptops is still useful especially if you are using the laptop for presentation purposes since many affordable projectors still rely on VGA. But if your laptop may not be able to connect to one of those new digital LCD or LED monitors if VGA and HDMI ports are missing. Fortunately, all you need is a VGA to DVI-D converter and you are all set. This converter can also be useful if you have an old computer and you don’t want to shell out extra money on a video card or motherboard with a DVI port.

VGA to DVI-D converters are fairly cheap but you should check out the pricier converter boxes as well because some of them let you connect both a VGA monitor as well as a DVI-D monitor to a computer. This means that an old computer can have 2 screens or a laptop can have 3 screens. This should boost your productivity significantly once you get used to things. Continue reading

Alternate Schools for Troubled Teens

It’s a gut-wrenching experience for powerless parents to watch struggling teens spinning in negative space. While our society is fortunate to have troubled teen schools available, most parents aren’t aware of their diverse options. Even parents who know about alternate schools for troubled teens may get confused trying to make a decision.

It boils down to whether the adolescent would be better served by inpatient or outpatient treatment and secondly which troubled teen school could provide the best possible outcome. Schools that promote punitive action therapy aren’t in the best interests of teenagers. In addition, the root cause of emotional/behavioral problems must be the focus instead of symptoms that manifest in struggling teens. Continue reading
