If that happens only occasionally, and you typically only use it for social media or browsing the Internet, backing it up once every two weeks or should be enough. However, if new data is introduced daily because you are doing business, working from home, or a student, you may need to backup your system every other day or even daily to save your information. Using this frequency of backup is the best option when there are large amounts of data that you don’t want to lose.

How To Backup Data

There are several ways that you can backup your computer data. The CDR is the most common and simplest method, and nearly all computers come with CD ROMs today. They are typically equipped for playing CDs, DVDs, CDRs and with CDR burners. It is commonly understood that the CDR is a hardy device that will take a beating and continue to operate which is why they are a great way to store your computer information. These devices store a large amount of data and are rather cheap. Each time you want to backup your system, just change to a new CDR and start the backup.

Among the other backup methods is the external hard drive. Such systems are available in TB range, and are hooked to the computer by way of USB cable. It works very much as if it were a second computer hard drive. When not in use, they should be disconnected from the computer because they will also crash if your computer does if they are connected.

A flash drive is a small, portable device which is a good way to back up information on a limited basis. Because they are smaller in size, it makes them easy to forget and leave plugged in. since these units can fail unexpected and need to be reformatted if they are going to be used again, it is best to use three or four of them on a rotating basis when backing up data.

There are some older methods that are not used any longer for backup. These are tape drives, floppy diskettes, and Zip drives. These are not easy to obtain any longer and even if you were able to get them, they damage or break easily. They are also more susceptible to magnets than today’s modern data backup tools.

The Best Choice

Of all the above options, the CDR has to be the safest choice when you need to recover data. There is no need to use special treatment with them, and they can store large amounts of information. You will never need to be concerned about unplugging them when you are through backing up data. If you forget that it is inside your computer, and it crashes, you can just pry it out and use it.
